On Tuesday, June 25, 2019, Wilfred Bryan Staufer, loving husband to Kathy, went home to be with the Lord at age 82 of brain cancer (glioblastoma). Bryan was born on September 28, 1936 in New Enterprise, PA. After receiving his M.D. from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1968, Bryan completed his pediatric residency at the Children\'s Hospital of Pittsburgh and practiced pediatric medicine for 40 years. On July 8, 1967, he married his sunshine, Kathleen Diane Walsh. Bryan loved his family dearly, and he found great joy in tracing the family genealogy. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed farming, gardening, bird hikes, and working on his fifty-acre farm. His favorite hobbies included traveling to visit loved ones, reading, canoeing, cross-country skiing, identifying rare species of plants and animals, volunteering as a lighthouse keeper with his wife, and participating in the amateur radio club. Practicing at Kalamazoo Pediatrics and WMU’s Sindecuse Health Center, Bryan was known and respected across the greater Kalamazoo area. He never met a stranger, not did he refer unkindly to anyone. His family lovingly remembers his patience, gentleness, and humble wisdom. Bryan was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Wilfred Noble and Esther Salome Staufer, and by his granddaughter, Elliana Claire Boatwright. He is survived by his wife Kathleen Diane, four children (David Bryan Staufer, Mark Andrew Staufer, Amy Nadine Sandberg, and Kerri Lynn Boatwright) and their families, his siblings (Ruth Teel, Marjorie Smith, and Paul Staufer), and a large extended family.
