In accordance with his wish cremation will take place with a private interment at Riverside Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be given to Centrica Care Navigators or Kairos Dwelling.

Age 95, passed away at his home on October 5, 2023. He was born in Kalamazoo, MI, on July 12, 1928, the son of the late Joseph and Emma (Triestram) VanderVeen. After high school, Allan would serve during WWII with the 438th Army Band, stationed at Camp Stoneman in California. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Southwest Michigan and attended Western Michigan University. On September 15, 1951, he married his former spouse Patrcia Carter who preceded him in passing on June 29, 1988. At that time Al also began what would become a 37-year career at Consumers Power Company. He retired as an Engineering Office Supervisor. Al had a deep passion for music. He was a member of the Kalamazoo Concert Band for 47 years and served as its President. He was a member of the American Legion Post 298 in Battle Creek, AmVets Post 1988 in Baldwin, MI, and a member of the Association of Military Musicians. He also volunteered over 7000 hours at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo, working mostly in restoration. He was also an 8-year member of the Ford Tri-Motor Flight Crew. When not working or volunteering, he enjoyed playing golf and spending time with family and friends. On July 9, 2006, he found love again and married Judith (DeLobel) VanderVeen who survives. He is also survived by his children, Kurt (Nancy) VanderVeen, Lisa VanderVeen; stepchildren, Laura Brandt, Lisa (Hans) Sapochak, Lance Brandt and Lee Brandt; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends. He was also preceded in passing by a sister, Elaine.
