Allan John Gernaat, age 70, of Kalamazoo passed away at Centrica Rose Arbor Place on May 22, 2026. He was born in Kalamazoo on February 15, 1956, the son of the late Philip and Ella (Sportel) Gernaat. After graduating from Kalamazoo Christian High School in 1974, he became co-owner of Phil Gernaat and Sons Greenhouse. Later he left the family business to seek his passion for driving big rig trucks across the USA. When not working, Al loved camping, fishing, playing the bango and spending time at the family cabin at County Line Lake in the U.P. Allan was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend who leaves behind many memories to cherish. He is survived by his loving brother, Stan (Kathy) Gernaat; nephews, Jason (Missy) Gernaat, Travis (Becky) Gernaat; many cousins, extended family and friends. He was also preceded in passing by a brother, Philip Gernaat Jr.
