In accordance with her wishes, cremation will take place and interment will be held next to her husband at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Comstock Township Library-Children’s Department.

Age 79, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2018. Elaine was born in Kalamazoo on June 30, 1938, the daughter of the late Aubrey and Audrey (Phillippe) Hammer. On May 6, 1957, Elaine was united in marriage to Joseph M. Gillis who preceded her in death on October 9, 1997. Elaine was a stay-at-home mom while her children were growing up. Her love of books and reading later led her to a 47 year career as a children’s librarian at the Comstock Township Library. Elaine is survived by her daughters, Diana (Joe) Baranoski, Cathy Jackson and Jean (Randy) Smith; grandchildren, Kenneth Meinke, Lauren (Roberto) Gaytan, Brittany (William) Stewart and Christopher and Caylea Jackson; brothers, David (Joan) and Allen (Sharon) Hammer and several nieces and nephews.
