A memorial gathering to honor and celebrate April’s life will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home, 917 S. Burdick St. Kalamazoo, MI 49001. Memorial contributions may be directed to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, ? the funeral home.

Age 50, passed away September 20, 2023, in Memphis, TN following a lengthy illness. April was
born in Kalamazoo on September 1, 1973, the daughter of David and Paula Nieboer. On June 22, 1996, she married Lee VanDerSlik, who survives her. April and Lee had a loving and devoted marriage. Together they had a happy life, and nothing was more important to them than their children. They established a happy home where the children are not just siblings but best friends. April worked as Director of Infection Prevention and Vascular Access Services at Regional One Health in Memphis. She was highly respected and deeply loved by her coworkers. April was known for her beautiful smile. Besides her husband, April is survived by her children, Adrian, Aeryn, Avery, and Aerika; her parents, Dave and Paula Nieboer; brother, Jason (Laura) Nieboer; mom-in-law Jane (Art Kollin) VanDerSlik; father-in-law, Allen (Denise) VanDerSlik; sister-in-law, Shellee VanDerSlik; grandfather-in-law, Joe VanBruggen; countless friends, including long-time special friend, Jade Flegal Weesies. April’s life was honored in a service held at Regional One Health’s Adams Chapel, on October 10, 2023. Participating were many fellow healthcare workers including the hospital chaplain and CEO.
