Age 73, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022. Arlene was born in Paw Paw, Michigan on December 21, 1948, the daughter of the late Arthur C. and Ethel J. (Butcher) Mumford. She was a graduate of Gobles High Schools and received an associate degree in Medical Coding. Arlene retired from Duotang Paper Company after 40 years of employment. She enjoyed spending time at her cabin in northern lower Michigan, reading and playing games on her phone. Arlene loved children and animals. She had a great sense of humor and a knack for making others laugh. She was selfless and caring and always put others needs above her own, lending a helping hand wherever she could. Arlene’s sweet and loving personality will be missed by her family and friends. On August 3, 1984, she married Steven A. Verburg, who survives. Arlene is also survived by a nephew, Dan (Melissa) Mumford; a niece, Angelia Arnold; brothers and sisters in-law, Jorene (Tom Penar) Morrow, Evie (Scott) Longshore, Sherry Verburg, Chris (Trent) Bennett, Jeff (Debbie) Verburg and Kathy Mumford and many other nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers. A memorial service to celebrate Arlene’s life will take place on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Reformed Church, 7829 5th St., Mattawan, MI 49071. Memorial contributions in her memory may be given to SPCA of Southwest Michigan.
