Age 88, passed away at home on Sunday, October 16, 2016. Ben was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on March 29, 1928, the son of the late John and Trena (Wolthuis) Sherman. He was a graduate of Comstock High School and was employed by Kalamazoo Screw Products for 42 years. Ben loved to tinker and could fix just about anything. On October 23, 1948 he married Ruth Allen, who preceded him in death in 1973. Ben is also preceded in death by his daughter, Judith Sherman; step-son, Craig Spencer and brother, Jack Sherman. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; who he married on December 14, 1974. Ben is also survived by his children, Catherine (Erwin) Doublestein, Susan (Dennis) Derhammer, Bonnie Cleasby and Sandra (Robert) Young; Carolyn’s children, Michael (Mary), David (Martha) and Kevin Spencer; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and sister in-law, Beverly Sherman.
