Age 91, passed away in her sleep on Sept. 22, 2016 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Betty was born on March 19, 1925 in Berrien Springs, Michigan, to Arthur and Gladys Chapman. She grew up in an Adventist home with very devout parents. After graduating in 1943 from Battle Creek High School, she worked at Kellogg’s Cereal Factory and took flying lessons nearby. Near the end of WWII, she married Daniel Roe and joined him in Army postings to Carlisle Barracks, PA; Fort Custer, MI; Camp Crowder, MO and southern Germany.
In 1965 Betty married Walburn (Wally) D. Puckett. She served in the choir and as the organist at the Napier Parkview Baptist Church, Benton Harbor. Betty retired from Mullen Container Corp. as head bookkeeper and later was a secretary at Heath Company, St. Joseph.
Betty enjoyed life-long learning, sailing and navigation classes, ham radio operation, line dancing, golf, bridge and other card playing. She particularly loved her three cats, travel and camping. She took great pleasure in senior chime classes and computer coursework in Portage.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Wally and brother, John Hobart Chapman. She leaves behind with loving memories her children, Bettina Roe, Danette Roe (Ernesto Onofre) and Robert (Kathy) Roe; two granddaughters, Cara Onofre and Kristina Roe; sister, Ruth (Richard) Slauter and brother, Duwaine Chapman; stepsons, Lee (Barbara) and Charles Puckett; in-laws, Helen Smith and Frances Roe; several nieces, nephews and church friends.
