On Thursday, August 1, 2019, Curtis LeRoy Butters, passed away at age 83. Curt was born on October 12, 1938, in Coldwater, MI to Lewis and Martha (Nash) Butters. He was the first of six children. Curt began his post college life teaching and coaching track and field at Sparta High School (Sparta, MI), where he has been inducted into the SHS Athletic Hall of Fame for his coaching tenure there. Education of one sort or another was important to Curt throughout his life – graduating from Western Michigan University with his BS and the University of Michigan with his MA in Early Childhood Education and Teaching. He was a life-long learner who wrote his own options program for options and derivative trading and was working until his passing on his life’s passion project, childhood education and “teaching the teachers” – those who knew him know that this was his life and share in the sadness that he will not see it through to fruition. Curt is survived by daughters, Desma (Steve) Caudill and Heidi (David) Girten, and their families; by his siblings, Bill (Carol) Butters, Marcia (Paul) Lane, Bonnie (Albert) Miller, Rick Butters and sister-in-law, Mary Butters. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Curt also had a close circle of friends who checked in on him, provided assistance when needed and were very special to him. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dan and son, Kip Adamson.
