UPTGRAFT, Diane
Portage
Age 83, passed away at home on April 12, 2023. Diane was born in Sturgis, Michigan on June 18, 1939, the daughter of the late James and LeMoyne (Himebaugh) Croy. On September 12, 1959, she married the love of her life, Gary L. Uptgraft, who preceded her in death on December 22, 2013. Diane was also preceded in death by her daughter, Emily Wilson; granddaughter, Jessica Haas and great-granddaughter, Avalynn Bianchetti. She is survived by her daughters, Merisa Uptgraft-Oswalt, Tamara Uptgraft and Eve (David) Thompson; grandchildren, Justin (Amanda) Wilson, Michael (Macy) Wilson, Andrew Uptgraft, Theo (Shannon) Thompson, LeRissa (Adam) Oliver, Davonna (Gustavo) Thompson, and Marcia Thompson; 21 great-grandchildren and sister, Barb Budd. Diane was a gentle and caring person who had a big heart. She loved being around people and had an infectious, bright personality. Her family was most important to her, and she cherished spending time with them. Diane was affectionately nicknamed “Favorite” by her grandson, Adam, which was the way many felt about her. In her younger years, Diane was an avid bowler and roller-skater, which is how she met Gary. She took great pride in her appearance and always made sure her “face” was on before leaving the house. Diane’s legal name was Garnett, a name given to her because of her red hair. Ironically, she grew to love gemstones and became an unofficial gemologist after years of learning about different types of gems.
