A service in witness to Dixie’s life and faith will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 247 W. Lovell St. Kalamazoo. Dixie will be laid to rest in the columbarium of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and at Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa. Age 96, passed away Sunday morning, August 20, 2023. Dixie was born in Kalamazoo on October 16, 1926, the daughter of Leo and Mildred (Tappan) Stafford. Dixie was a long-time educator in the Kalamazoo area. She enjoyed traveling and was a scratch golfer. She also liked to fish. She played the French horn in the Kalamazoo Concert Band. As a lifetime Episcopalian she was an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church where she volunteered in many capacities. Dixie is survived by her niece, Charlotte (Bob) Bates of Tulsa, OK; great-nephews, Tyler (Elizabeth) Pack, Treavor (Loretta) Richards and Travis Richards; great-nephews and nieces, Ferrial, Travis Tyler and Daphne; sister-in-law, Nancy Richard; and countless friends. Dixie was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marilou A. Richards; a special aunt, Hazel Bean; brother-in-law, Charles A. Richards; nephews, William W. Richards, and Charles W. “Ricky” Richards; niece, Terrie Louise Richards.
