Age 77 passed away on February 15, 2021. Don was born in Kalamazoo, on December 11, 1943, the son of Donald F. and Eleanor (Coe) Calkins. He was married to Mary Albertson who preceded him in death in 2008, after 33 years of marriage. He later met a former high school friend, Kathy Reed Grogg who he married on August 5, 2012. He served in the United States Army National Guard. Don was a true gentleman. He was thoughtful and often opened car doors for ladies. He loved taking care of the yard and working on other projects around the house. He loved travelling, and even though he often would take the wrong road, he never thought himself to be lost because he had a map and his cell phone. He enjoyed fishing, baseball, football and always rooted for the Lions and the Tigers. He worked for many years at Gibson Guitar, Stow & Davis and Steelcase. He played the drums and played in a band called The Country Gentlemen. Don is survived by his wife, Kathy; his children, Chris Calkins of Kalamazoo and David (Mary) Calkins of Chicago, IL; granddaughter, Elise; step-daughter, Melissa (Shawn) Emmons of Paw Paw; step-grandchildren, Hailey, London, and Shane; great-grandaughter, McKenzie; sisters, Pat Bunn and Peggy Brown; mother-in-law, Genevieve Klein of Portage; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and countless friends.
