A Celebration of Life for George will be held in the Light Fine Arts Building on the campus of Kalamazoo College at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, October 28, 2023. Per his desire his cremains will be interred in the family plot on Woodlawn Cemetery, Wadsworth, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Fontana Chamber Arts, in c/o the funeral home.

Age 89, passed away early Thursday morning, September 14, 2023. George was born in Wadsworth, OH, on May 17, 1934, the son of Marius and Jimmie (Shelor) Nielsen. After graduating from Ohio Wesleyan University, George earned a Ph.D in mathematics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 1963, he joined the faculty of Kalamazoo College. While George was teaching mathematics for thirty-six years, he also served as the foreign student advisor for twenty years. He retired in 1999.
