Age 84, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2020. Emelyn was born in Detroit on February 13, 1936, the daughter of Charles C. and Ruth M. (Long) Curlee. She grew up in Dearborn, Michigan, graduated from Dearborn High School in 1954, and attended Hope College from 1954 to 1958. She later completed her bachelor’s degree at Western Michigan University and was a middle school teacher in the Kalamazoo area for several years. On June 7, 1958, she married John E. Winter, who preceded her in death on April 15, 2018. Emelyn was involved for over 35 years with a local Aglow International Bible study group, and treasured the friendships she made there. Emelyn is survived by her children, Charles (Julia) Winter of Bloomfield Hills and Ellen Winter of Grand Haven; grandchildren, Annie (Kevin) Klinke of Seattle, Washington and Peter (Abby) Winter of San Francisco, California; and great-granddaughter Cecilia Klinke. Emelyn loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter. Being a great-grandmother to Cecilia brought her much joy. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister Charlotte Utzinger, and her brother Charles Curlee.
