Laura, I saw Mike’s post on Facebook about Garret’s death. Of course, because of my move to Salt Lake City I was unaware that he was sick. I so much enjoyed getting to know him in our Sunday Reading Aloud class at First Pres. I wish I could be with you on Saturday. Please know that you will be in my prayers. Jan Boutelle

Dear Laura and family, Sending you love and prayers during this time of extraordinary loss.It was such a privilege to know him and to work with him over the years. His love for you and his sons was so joyful and deep. His dedication and compassion for special education students was exemplary. I admired him greatly and leaned so much from his kindness, wisdom, and intellect. Garrett meant so much to so many and he will be greatly missed. May peace be with you and your family.

We have had the true honor of working with Garrett for many, many years here in Kalamazoo County. Both Gail and I agree that he has always been a true gentleman and one of the most respected leaders in all respects. Garrett was a wonderful friend and colleague and we will miss his wit and wise advice. Rest in peace my friend.

Laura and Family - Garrett was my junior high teacher at Fremont Christian. He is one of the main reasons I became an educator. It was such a blessing to reconnect when he was at KRESA and I was principal at Kalamazoo Christian. I treasured the reconnection and our lunchtimes reminiscing together. May God bless you with His comfort and peace.

Claire--so sorry to hear of your loss. We liked seeing your brothers at all your family events over the years, and enjoyed Garrett's sense of humor in particular. What a truly gentle man and so attentive. Your family is in our hearts and our prayers.

My condolences to Garrett’s family. I worked with him at PPS Special Ed department. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great boss. Because of him, everyone felt like family. He was such a proponent of children and their abilities. I learned so much from his leadership. He will be remembered.

Garrett hired me into Portage as a Speech and Language Therapist, after I had been on a 10 year leave for the birth of my first child. He was such a kind boss, always willing to listen and offer appreciated advice. He was also very understanding in my fears to get back into the work force after such a long time. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time. Nancy Bunkley
