The Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Thursday, August 6, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 936 Lake St., Kalamazoo. Friends may call on the family for one hour prior to the service at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Social distancing guidelines will be observed. Please wear a mask or other facial covering. Guillermo will be laid to rest next to his wife, Maria Teresa at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kalamazoo. Those wishing to make a lasting gift in Guillermo’s name are asked to consider St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, in c/o the funeral home.

Age 57, passed away on Friday morning, July 31, 2020. Guillermo was born on March 12, 1963, in Aratzipu, Guanajuarto, Mexico, the son of Benjamin and Teresa (Alvarez Chavez) Diaz. On December 19, 1987, he married Maria Teresa Tornero, who preceded him in death on February 17, 2020. Guillermo and Teresa, and their young family immigrated to the United States in 1990. Guillermo enjoyed being with friends and visiting family. He and Teresa enjoyed dancing together. They liked cooking together, and the family especially has memories of them making tamales together for Christmas. He was passionate about music of all kinds. He also enjoyed being outside and working in his garden. Guillermo had a great sense of humor and his laugh will echo in the hearts and minds of those he loved for years to come. He was not afraid of hard work and had a strong work ethic. He was an employee of JBS of Plainwell for many years. His family will always remember him for being there to help them. Guillermo is survived by his children, Fatima (Andrew) Diaz-Nassaney of Kalamazoo, Benjamin Diaz of Kalamazoo, Maria Diaz of Kalamazoo; his father, Benjamin Diaz Hernandez; 3 brothers and 6 sisters; several nieces and nephews and many friends. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his mother; 2 brothers and a sister.
