It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Helen Louise (Lyster) Howes, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, who left us peacefully on November 11, 2025 at the age of 99.

A devoted Lutheran, Helen lived a life of faith, grace, and unwavering love. She was a woman of remarkable beauty, not only in appearance but in spirit, who touched the lives of everyone around her with kindness and warmth. Known for her elegance and class, she possessed a natural radiance that lit up the room.

As a loyal wife, Helen shared 78 years of marriage with her dear husband, Ben, creating a life filled with love and devotion. Together, they raised their daughter, Kim, grounded in faith and unconditional love.
Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and their best memory of their grandmother is how she made small moments seem so special. When she wasn’t spending time with them, she and Ben were always on the go, traveling the country and making a lifetime of memories.

Helen spent many years as a florist, where her creative talents flourished. Starting her career at Van Bochove’s Greenhouse and then her own business, Aura, she later became a floral consultant for the Kellogg Company which was her proudest career achievement. She had an eye for beauty in all things and brought joy to others through her work, specifically her church. Creating arrangements that expressed love, happiness, and celebration.

She will be remembered as a woman of grace, dignity, and boundless love. Her faith, family, and friends were the center of her life, and she leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

She will be missed by her loving husband, Bennett Howes; daughter, Kimberly Mallory (Tom VanSoest); grandchildren, Bennett Mallory (Christina Mallory) and Victoria Hollister (Mike Georgeau); great-grandchildren, Violet, Rhys, and Skye Hollister, Juniper and Estelle Mallory, Cash Blystra; and many friends who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
