Age 85, passed away at Centrica Rose Arbor Place on September 22, 2023. He was born in High Point, NC, the son of James F. Durham Sr, and Ruby E. Nelms. James Jr. was a kind, passionate and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He loved life, lived it to its fullest and leaves behind many wonderful memories to cherish. Raised in the “Blue and White” of Tar Heel country his love for the University of North Carolina would remain with him for life. He seldom missed the opportunity to catch a game and was their biggest fan throughout March Madness! James also loved America and served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1960. It was during his service that he would meet the true love of his life Sarah J. Flacy who he married on October 18, 1958. He was a hard worker and had a keen mind for medical research which led to a career with the Upjohn Company. While there he served as the head of numerous studies, making a profound difference in the lives of many. When not working he enjoyed playing golf, was a committed attendee of Recast Church and loved returning to the beaches of North Carolina when he was able. Above all James loved his family. His smile, laughter and love will be missed. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Sarah J. Durham; three children, Jim (Lisa) Durham, Janie (Gary) Myers and Lollie Parzych; siblings, Judy (Art) Reddy and Brenda Grubb; 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
