Age 81, passed away on December 21, 2016, with family at his side. Bud was born in Kalamazoo on September 15, 1935, the son of the late Peter and Jean (Kline) Hassing. Bud graduated from Otsego High School and would remain in the Kalamazoo area. He had an outgoing personality, a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious smile that made him a joy to know and be around. Bud was very handy and could fix and work on most anything. He was involved in race car driving and won many trophies at both Kalamazoo and Galesburg Speedway. He was an exceptional woodworker and made many pieces for friends and family. Bud was a hard worker who spent twenty-nine years in the automotive industry and later worked and retired from Flowserve. Bud gave freely of himself and in the 1970’s began serving the Alamo Township community as a volunteer fireman. He also served as a member of the National Guard. He was a long standing member of the Free Masons. Bud had many friends and his memory will be cherished. Above all he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He leaves a legacy of a life well lived. On May 3, 1957, he married the love of his life Carolyn (Henry) Hassing who preceded him in passing in 2014. He is survived by four children, Debbie (Rick) Davis, Jay Hassing Jr., Rebecca Hassing, Doug Hassing; two grandchildren, Justin (Christine) Kelley and Kelly (Ken Hale) Gibbs; a great-granddaughter, Scarlett Kelley; six siblings; many nieces, nephews and friends.
