Seven months shy of her 99th birthday, Jean Greeley died peacefully on May 6, 2021 at the home of her youngest daughter, Colleen. Born Jean Helen Reeber on December 22, 1922, she lived her entire life in the greater Detroit area. She married Tom Greeley in 1948 and they moved to Farmington Hills in 1956 where she lived in the same home until age 92. Jean raised their three children, Pat, Kathy, and Colleen, as a single mother after Tom tragically died at the age of 41.
Jean began working at Oakland Community College in the late 60’s and she loved both her job in administration and her colleagues. She retired “kicking and screaming” at age 69 but ended up enjoying the next 30 years as she traveled, visited family, spent countless hours reading the stack of books she had waiting for her—and of course, working on her never ending “to-do” list!
Jean will be remembered for her fierce independence, her resilience and deep faith that helped her persist against all odds—-but most of all for her twinkly smile, her gentle kindness, and unconditional love. The many memories she created, plus her strong sense of right and wrong will remain as an inspiration for all whose lives she touched. Jean was the “last woman standing” of her siblings and those of her husband, Tom. Jean’s passing has saddened the many who survive her, including her 3 children, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Our lives are richer for having known her!
