John will be laid to rest privately with full military honors at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 13 beginning at 11:00 AM, at Kalamazoo Covenant Church, 5708 E. Main St., Kalamazoo, MI 49048, with Pastor Dave Beetham officiating.

Age 81, went to be with the Lord on February 9, 2017, with family at his side. John was born in Kalamazoo on October 21, 1935, the son of the late John and Helen Baker Jr. He graduated Kalamazoo Central High School. He enlisted in the Army and served our country with honor until being discharged. John then returned to Kalamazoo. He was a hard worker and retired after twenty-five years from the Upjohn Company. John was a loving, kind and compassionate man. He loved his family and was deeply dedicated to his children and grandchildren. John enjoyed life. He loved riding motorcycles, traveling and taking cruises. Family gatherings with laughter and food were something he always enjoyed. John also liked watching classic westerns and war films. His warm smile and laughter will be missed by all who knew him. On June 25, 1954, he married the love of his life Margaret (Koenig) Baker who survives. He is also survived by four children, Penny (Christopher) McCann, Annette (Monty) Banks, John H. Baker IV, Karen (Allen) Klein; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in passing by an infant daughter, Cindy Loraine; and siblings, Jim, Larry and Linda.
