Age 75, passed away at Rose Arbor on Thursday, February 8, 2018, with family at his side. John was born in Hillsdale, MI, on July 13, 1942, the son of the late Hank and Johanna Fink. John was loving, kind and passionate. He had a great personality and was a joy to know. He was a graduate of Reading High School Class of 1960 and in 1966 received his B.A. from WMU. John was a hard worker who began his career as a policeman in Otsego. He then transferred to the Kalamazoo County Probation Office in 1966 and in 1976, he transitioned to a position with the State of Michigan where he worked until his retirement in 2001. When not working John loved to stay active tinkering on projects around the house, cutting wood, riding his motorcycle and biking. He was an active father and role model. He was a 4-H Horse Leader for many years and was also involved as a coach on baseball and rocket football teams. Above all John loved his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather whose smile, laughter and wisdom will be missed. He was his grandchildren’s “biggest fan” and could always be found in the stands of their sporting events or programs. On November 25, 1961, he married his high school sweetheart, Ruth (Carlisle) Fink who survives. He is also survived by four loving children, Lori (Jim) Pohl, Jenifer (Scott) Barnebee, Joe (Nancy) Fink, Emily (Mike) Whitehead; nine grandchildren, Max (Paige Stuart) Pohl, Lucie (John Haslam) Pohl, Dustin (Amanda) Barnebee, Leslie (Mike) Biro, Holly (Brandon) Doughty, Tyler (Emily) Fink, Meghan Fink, Clay and Shane Whitehead; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Jane (Doug) Snyder; many extended family and friends.
