John Robert (Bob) Adkins passed away on Sunday, May 2^nd at his home.  Bob was born in Marion, Indiana to Delmar and Joyce (Dobson) Adkins. He joined two older brothers; Harold and Delmar, followed by two sisters; Brenda and Kathy. The family left their humble beginnings in Indiana and moved to Galesburg, Michigan in 1965 where his father began a job at General Motors. Bob thrived in sports, with the help of Hall of Fame Galesburg-Augusta coaches of his era, all of whom he greatly admired for the rest of his life. He was the state runner-up for tennis in 1969 and 1970, State Champion in 1971 and 1972. His time in the 880-yard run of set a school record, after 48 years is the oldest standing record for Galesburg-Augusta. After graduating from High School he went on to attend and play tennis at Ball State University. His love for tennis became his career as a Tennis Pro in the greater Kalamazoo Area for over 30 years. Bobs’ calm demeanor, as a coach and as an athlete, was one of his greatest gifts. His natural coaching ability allowed him to positively influence countless young athletes in the area, including his 4 children. His last job was at Bells Brewery, where he made many friends and enjoyed the perks the company provided; sharing beer with family and friends being his favorite one. One of Bob’s truest passions was fishing on a private lake his family has had access to since 1966. His summer weekends were mostly spent on the water in a Jon boat at his “little piece of heaven on Earth.” He is survived by his daughters; Shanna (Bob) Keller, Erica (Aaron) Stewart, Tara (Jeff) Baker, and son John Adkins. Grandchildren; Lauren, Robby, Bailey, Isaac, Grace, Edwin, and Oliver. His brothers Harold (Bonnie), Delmar, and sister Kathy, in addition to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Brenda. He was a very special person to many and will be greatly missed.
