Kathleen (“Kay”) Ruth Weakley passed away at home after a lengthy illness on Sunday, November 7, 2021 surrounded by her husband and children. Kay was born on September 12, 1931 to Arthur and Bernice Wickert in Chicago, Illinois. She moved to Battle Creek as a young child, where she attended Lakeview Schools, graduating in 1949. She attended Argubright Business School where she met the love of her life, Richard. They married on November 10, 1951. A homemaker while her children were young, she was a legal secretary for many years. Kay and Dick retired on the same day in 1987, and then purchased a motor home to pursue new adventures. They spent 29 winters in Mesa, Arizona at Valle del Oro where they enjoyed many friends. She served on their Chapel Board and was an avid Bridge player. They loved to travel and enjoyed many cruises. Favorite vacation destinations included Alaska, Hawaii, Virginia/D.C. and Europe. An excellent cook and homemaker, Kay helped Dick design their home of 53 years. Kay and Dick have been faithful members of First Baptist Church of Kalamazoo for 63 years where they were members of the Beacon Sunday School class and enjoyed working in the Soup Kitchen. Serving others was important to her; she was past president of the Bronson Hospital Auxiliary. In the past several years, due to physical ailments, the things she loved to do were no longer an option. We, her family, were inspired by how she faced her difficulties with grace and courage, seldom complaining. Kay is survived by her husband of 70 years, Richard Weakley and her children, Linda (Greg) Alexander of Marshall, VA; Karen (James) Rich of Battle Creek, MI and Gregg Weakley of Portage, MI. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Arthur (Patricia) Wickert, and sister Ruth and 3 nephews and 2 nieces.
