A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. noon, at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home, 917 S. Burdick St., Kalamazoo. Friends may call on the family for one hour prior to the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Larry will be laid to rest next to Ellen at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in a private ceremony. Memorial contributions may be made to Centrica Care Navigators, in c/o the funeral home.

Age 88, passed away Friday evening, January 13, 2023. Larry was born in Kalamazoo on January 28, 1934, the son of Herschel Sr. and Cecelia “Nellie” (Stanaszek) King. He was raised by his mother and step-father, Douglas Martin. On April 17, 1954, he married Ellen Liggett who preceded him in death in 1997. Larry was an avid golfer. He enjoyed boating, golfing, hunting and fishing with his buddies, Bud Moore and Kenny Shetterly, and family members. He always looked forward to going to Florida and getting out of the cold Michigan winter with Sharon. Larry proudly served his nation in the United States Air Force. He was a graduate of Western Michigan University. Larry is survived by his daughter, Cathy (Edwin) Zimmerman of Portage; son, Thomas P. King of Portage; daughters-in-law, Lori King, Beth King; grandchildren, Joseph (Dana), Eric (Sophie), Scott, Jeffrey (Rebecca), Brandon, Brianna (Guy), Cassandra (Gabe), Justin, Alexis (Victor); great-grandchildren, Ava, Mia, Noah, Olivia, Jacob, Isobelle, Kynlee, King, Ava, Miles; his best friend of 20 years and fiancee, Sharon McIntyre; brother, Donald (Elaine) Martin; several nieces and nephews and countless friends. Besides his wife, Larry was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Michael King, David King and Brian King; brothers, Herschel King Jr., Ronald Martin; sisters, Jan Dyer and Joyce Martin.
