Age 60, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. Laura was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on May 28, 1962, the daughter of Jack S. and Patricia A. (Newlun) Boykin. She was a graduate of Parchment High School and went on to earn her nursing degree from Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Laura spent the majority of her career working as a Register Nurse at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center, but also worked as an EMT for Ross Township and Mall City Ambulance. She had a passion for animals and owned many beloved pets over the years. Laura was an active member of St. Ambrose Catholic Parish of Parchment and was very involved in the choir. She also loved to spin wool and was a member of the Scottish Weavers and Spinners Group. Laura is survived by her father, Jack Boykin; sister, Linda Shipe; niece, Heather Berry; nephew, William (Dawn Glover) Shipe; great-nephews, Jeremiah and Zackry and great-niece, Alycea. She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Boykin; her grandparents and several aunts and uncles. Cremation has taken place. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1628 East G Ave., Kalamazoo, MI 49004. Interment of cremains will take place at West Cooper Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Ambrose Catholic Parish of Parchment.
