Age 80, died peacefully in hospice care on Saturday, March 28, 2020. He was born on December 11, 1939 in Republic, Michigan. Lenny served in the United States Army from 1963-1965 and went on to serve in the Army Reserves until 1969. On November 13, 1971, he married Marilyn Haelterman. They moved to Kalamazoo, where they raised two children together. Lenny worked for the Michigan State Highway Department as a construction inspector for over 35 years. He took great pride in his work, knowing that it contributed to the safety of his home state. In his free time, Lenny enjoyed golfing, crossword puzzles, and especially reading. Lenny was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Laura (Lyyski) Mattson and his brother, Bernard. Surviving are his wife, Marilyn; son, Michael; daughter, Lynette (Matthew); grandson, Henry; brothers, Clifford and Wilford; and sisters, Luana, Bernice, and Aurelia.
