Linda Barber, age 77, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, surrounded by family.

Though tiny in stature, “Little Linda” had a strong spirit. With her famous fiery red hair, enormous smile and spicy personality, “Little Red” was quick to love. She was a survivor known for her friendliness, determination, resilience, straight-talk, laughter and fierce love for her family, especially her sons and her grandson, Michael.

Born in Ironton, Ohio, and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Linda graduated with honors from Edmonson High School. She married at 19, soon welcoming her pride and joy: sons John and Chad. Linda excelled in the service profession. Highlights of her career include Disney’s Animal Kingdom catering and Portage Public Schools. At Portage Community Alternative High School, she became a beloved mentor and advocate for countless students.

The family deeply thanks Dr. Muhammad Usman, Bronson Hospital, PACE, and Rose Arbor Hospice for their exceptional care.

Linda is survived by her sons, John (Allison) and Chad (Annmarie); brother, Dave (Rose); grandson, Michael, and nieces and nephews.

In her final days, Linda summed up her life: “Some of it’s been magic, some of it’s tragic. But I’ve had a good life. I’ve been truly blessed.” And so have we for the privilege of loving and having been loved by Linda.
