Age 90, joined our Lord on Thursday, August 25, 2017. She was born in Cass County, MI, on October 4, 1926, the daughter of the late Clyde and Elsie (Cantwell) VanTuyl. Lois had a giving spirit and her passion was taking care of her family. That care began at the age of 18, after losing her father. She took a job at Kroger where she worked for 15 years and later Hardings Market where she worked for 10 years. After her second marriage she lost her daughter, Viola Boyd, after a tragic accident. Lois adopted Viola’s three young children, Jenny, Julie and Jacob and moved to a home in Portage where her love and care for her family continued. Lois also took time to help others. She acquired nurses training for terminally ill patients while living in Colorado. Her home and heart were always open to those in need and she was loved by all who knew her. Lois was also preceded in death by three husbands, John Bent, Jamie Boyd and Robert Goolsby; sisters, Rita VanTuyl Walters and Ruby VanTuyl Wright; brothers, Morris, Lyle and Louis VanTuyl. She is survived by four sons, John, Duane and Daniel Bent and Jamie Boyd; two daughters, Jenny Chefan and Julie Elkins; a brother, Marvin VanTuyl; 29 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren; several step-children; many nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom she loved.
