Lois, known as “Louie” by her good friends, was born on June 1, 1949, one of six daughters to Elbert and Emma (Dotey) Sanders. From a young age, she faced many hardships, but it only seemed to have made her a more caring person. She moved to Michigan in 1967 where she married her first husband William “Al” Harrell. Together they raised two children and made Kalamazoo their home. In her prime, Lois ran a daycare facility and participated in local bowling leagues where she was both well-liked and accomplished. In her later years, she worked at American Winding in Vicksburg and the Aunt Millies bread store in Kalamazoo. She made a lasting impression in both facilities until she retired in 2009. During retirement, she enjoyed reading, watching her Detroit Tigers, and summer drives to Lake Michigan with her best friend Jeanie. Even when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, she always stayed positive and continued to fight. She gave everyone she knew a lasting memory they will forever carry in their hearts. She was preceded in death by both her parents as well as her sisters, Trina, Colin and Juanita. She is survived by her sisters Hallie and Wanda, her children Lisa and James, and her grandchildren Shelby and Alex. The family would like to extend their gratitude for all the help the Joldersma & Klein team has afforded us.
