Cremation will take place and Loren will be laid to rest privately in Hill Cemetery, Oshtemo. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, South Michigan food bank, Rose Arbor Hospice or the charity of one’s choice, c/o the funeral home.

Age 84, passed away at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence on May 27, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Battle Creek, MI, on February 21, 1938, the son of the late Clarence and Isabella (Inglis) Thorson. Loren was a kind and loving man who will be missed by all who knew him. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School, Class of 1956 and went on to attend Kellogg Community College. Loren had a servant’s heart and a passion for helping others which led to a career as a fireman. He served with the City of Kalamazoo and later as fireman for the Upjohn Company. He also served with the Air National Guard for six years. When not working he enjoyed cars, singing, cooking and was a gifted wood worker. He made special crosses as a gift for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and as a gift for many special occasions. Above all Loren loved his family and leaves them with the legacy of a life well lived. He is survived by his sister, Clarice Jane “C.J.” Cartwright,  four children, Betsy L. Thorson, Cynthia M. (Joseph II) Manion, Larry Thorson., Donald N. (Beverly) Thorson; sixteen grandchildren, Joseph (Sophia) Manion III, Nathan (Elissa) Manion, Candace (Nathan) Troyer, Jason Manion, Christianne Manion, Jonathan Manion, Josiah (Elizabeth) Manion, Micaiah Manion, Deborah Manion, Emily Manion, Skye Manion, Clarissa Manion, Vanessa Manion, Mark Manion, Lauren Thorson, Taylor Thorson; ten great-grandchildren, Joseph Manion IV, Anna Manion, Steven Manion, Mercy Manion, Ivy Manion, Elaina Troyer, David Troyer, Jewel Troyer, Cilar Cunningham and Skiler Cunningham; and his nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in passing by a brother, Robert M. Thorson.
