Age 89, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020. Peg was born in Sault St. Marie, Canada on April 4, 1931, to the late William David and Ida Christine (McRitchie) Johnstone. She attended Western Ontario University where she participated in a multitude of organizations, clubs, and the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. After her graduation and the death of her father, Peg moved with her mother from Canada to Kalamazoo to be closer to family. She worked at the Upjohn company and soon met Gerald deMink, whom she married on August 18th of 1956. They had two children, a daughter, Julaine and son, William. The whole family moved to a farm in Delton in 1968, renaming it Stillmeadow Farms. The property was the site for many celebrations and events with friends and family, and continual renovations included a unique barn that was converted into a home where Peg’s mother, Ida lived for many years. Peg assisted Gerald in his deMink and Associates and Unique Cuisine businesses and continued to work for the Upjohn Company (later Pfizer) until her retirement. Following the passing of her husband, Peg moved to Richland in 1991, where she honed her artistic talents of painting and sketching, gardening, bird watching, volunteering, and reading. It was here where she also met her longtime partner, Dick Glidden, who was her companion in dance and life until her passing. Peg participated and won many awards for floral and gardening events, and her exceptional sense of style was apparent in both her decoration and her fashion sense. Her creativity, compassion, and care for her family will be painfully missed. Peg is survived by her daughter, Julaine LeDuc (John); son, William “Bill” deMink; her grandchildren, Lauren Maier (Michael), Zachary LeDuc (Sarah), Maisie LeDuc (Drew Warden), Garret deMink and Calla deMink; and her great-grandchildren, Penelope and Freddie Maier.
