Margaret Jane Dent passed away in Kalamazoo, MI, on February 19, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on December 14, 1928, in Flint, MI, the daughter of the late Jesse James and Lydia Etoile Bone. After moving around with her family, they settled in Vicksburg, MI. Margaret graduated from Vicksburg High school Class of 1946. During this time, she met Gerald Dent who she later married on September 2, 1948. Gerald built them a house in Vicksburg on Boulevard St. and they welcomed three boys in the coming years, Terry, Tim, and Ted. In 1952, Jane and Gerald started Dent Plumbing and Heating. Jane was the accountant for their business and also worked at Lee Paper Company to support the family while their business grew. During their early years, Jane and Gerald enjoyed camping up north with relatives spending time fishing, and mushroom hunting. Jane was also athletically gifted. She enjoyed golf, tennis and bowling. Around 1966, they moved the family to Indian Lake. During this time, they enjoyed trips to Canada, England, Mexico and all around the U.S. Due to the lovely weather, they fell in love with Florida and moved there in 1988, settling into the Venture Out community near Key West. Jane stayed busy playing tennis nearly every day and became involved in many activities. She started working at the post office of Venture Out and ultimately became the Postmaster there which she was extremely proud of. After sixty-two years of marriage, Gerald passed away in 2010. Jane resided in Florida until 2017, then moved back to Michigan to be closer to family. The family would like to thank Lakehouse of Kalamazoo assisted living and Compassus Hospice for their attentive care. Jane mentioned often that she lived a “wonderful life” and “loved her family”. She is survived by two loving sons, Terry (Paula Meier) Dent and Ted (Stacy) Dent; granddaughters Chrissy, Amy, Sarah, and Taylor; five great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Pat Dent (Alan Grantham). She was also proceeded in death by a son, Tim; grandson, Ryan and brother, Tom.
