In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place and a gathering to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, September 14, 2020 at Spring Valley Church, from 6-8 p.m. He will be laid to rest with full military honors at Fort Custer National Cemetery during a private family service on Tuesday, September 15, 2020. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution may do so by sending donations to The Wounded Warrior Project, c/o the funeral home or consider being the light by saving a life through a blood donation.

Age 52, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2020 in Kalamazoo. He was born in Kalamazoo on April 17, 1968, the son of Jon Harrington and Nellie Swensick. Following high school, Mark joined the United States Marie Corp, and honorably served our country from 1988 until 1995, earning the rank as Sergeant/E-5. Upon returning to Kalamazoo, Mark became a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service and for a time was the local U.S.P.S union president. Mark was a man of integrity and deeply loved his family. Many describe Mark as a “silver lining” man. He always saw the best in every situation and everyone he met. Mark was a very kind, gentle, caring and positive man. He always tried to do the right thing no matter what. He was quite an all- around athlete, excelling in golf, pool and baseball. He was also famous for playing football in the backyard with his kids. Mark was also a volunteer firefighter with the Kalamazoo Township Fire Department. Mark was preceded in death by his grandmother, Dorothy Brown. He leaves to cherish his memory his father and step mother, Jon and Sharon Harrington, his mother, Nellie Swinsick, his Grandfather, Kenneth Harrington, his siblings, Kelly Rose, Michelle Harrington and Nicole (Brandon) Groff, his partner, Valerie Johnson, his children, Meghan (Shaun) Hallmark, Ryan (Cristal) Harrington, Taylor Harrington and Graeson Harrington, grandchildren, Blake, Braxton and Tucker Hallmark, as well as nieces and nephews, Dakota, A.J. and Sam.
