A funeral service to honor and celebrate Mark’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home, beginning at 11:00am. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 10:00am, one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Ft. Custer National Cemetery beginning at 1:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Commer Family (checks payable to Judy Commer), c/o the funeral home.

Age 73, of Marshall, MI, passed away at his home on November 14, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on May 12, 1952, Grosse Pointe, MI the son of the late Roy and Carol (Schofield) Commer. He grew up in Detroit and graduated from Denby High School. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served our country with honor from 1972 to 1976; then served in the U.S. Army from 1976-1977. After being discharged, Mark returned to the classroom and earned two associate degrees. His passion for art would lead to a career with General Motors and later at Paramount as an automotive designer. He worked hard to provide for his family. When not working he had many hobbies and passions. He collected model airplanes, tanks and freighters. He enjoyed bird watching, playing catch, watching football games, dancing and a good joke. He was a wonderful cook who liked hot sauce and a classic eating contest at restaurants. Mark had a terrific sense of humor and a zest for life. His smile and laughter were contagious and allowed him to make friends with ease. He lived life to the fullest and made many wonderful memories with his family and friends. He had a Christian faith which served as a foundation for his life. Above all, Mark loved his family and was especially proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To know Mark was to love him and he will be missed. On August 14, 1982, he married the love of his life, Judy (Caley) Commer who survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Katrina (Bill) Robinson, Laura (Steven) Panich, Amy Commer; grandchildren, John, Holly, Andelyn, Tanner (Katie), Brendan, Abigail, Sydney and Jadin; several great-grandchildren; siblings, Cheryl Commer, Kent (Beatrice) Commer; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was also preceded in passing by sister, Kerry; brothers-in-laws, Albert, Leon, William, Malachi and Howard; aunt, Irene; niece, Tracy; cousin, Craig.
