Age 85, passed away on November 2, 2020, with loved ones at her side. She was born on February 8, 1935, in Kalamazoo, MI, the daughter of the late William and Wilma (Berg) Schafer. Maryland was kind, gentle and loving. She had a warm smile and was a joy to know. Maryland was a hard worker who retired after many years of service at the State Hospital. When not working she enjoyed being outdoors, working in her garden or mowing the lawn. She liked to have fun and enjoyed taking trips to the casino. Above all Maryland loved her family and her friends and she leaves them with wonderful memories to cherish. On August 1, 1952, she married the love of her life, Robert Decker who preceded her in passing in 2013. She was also preceded in passing by a daughter, Linda Santman; brother, William Schafer; two sisters, Erma Verberg and Eva Mitchell. She is survived by three loving daughters, Debra Decker, Joan (David) Santman, Robin Decker; a grandson “son”, Robert Rose; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Mark Santman; sister-in-law, Beverly Schafer; brother-in-law, Michael Verberg; many nieces, nephews and friends.
