A memorial service to celebrate Matt’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Portage Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 7028 Oakland Dr., Portage, MI 49024 with Pastor Barry Petrucci officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.

Age 46, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home on Wednesday, August 17, 2016. Matt was born in Kalamazoo on September 16, 1969, the son of Leroy and Marilynn (Miller) Justice of Portage. Above all else, Matt loved and lived for his wife, Krista, and beautiful and adored children, Olive and William. Matt was a 1987 graduate of Portage Central High School and held degrees in math, philosophy, and teaching from Michigan State University and a Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown Law Center. Matt’s gift was captivating audiences of children with his theatrics, storytelling prowess, and joyful humor. His time as a counselor at Van Buren Youth Camp was a formative experience that stayed with him always. Sparked by an adventurous spirit, Matt loved to experience life; he backpacked throughout Europe, hiked the Appalachian Trail, and worked with a non-profit in Kenya. Matt also spent the majority of his adult life teaching high school math and physics and as an attorney in Kalamazoo. He was a man known for his intellectual curiosity and charismatic presence. Matt is preceded in death by his father, Leroy, and sister, Jill Hosbein. He is survived by his wife, Krista; children, Olive Elizabeth and William Emerson Justice; mother, Marilynn Justice; in-laws, Don and Connie Markley; brother, Jim (LuAnne) Justice; sister, Jackie Justice-Brown; nieces and nephews, Samantha (Gordon) Lee, Miranda Hosbein, Trevor (Meredith) Justice and Madelyn and Molly Brown; brothers in-law, Kurt Markley, Henry Hosbein, and Scott Brown, and great-nephew, Caden Justice.
