Deepest sympathies from Mike and Marie's former neighbors on 6th Street. As kids, we thoroughly enjoyed their horses and llamas, helping out with barn chores and riding the horses as much as we were allowed. Both Marie, and now Mike, will be missed! Wishing the family strength for now and the future.

Mike will be remembered as a sweet soul with a radiant smile, a dear friend to so many! I have known Mike since the early 1980's, and have had the blessing of playing music with him in three bands: Sampler Band, Heartland Band, and The Hoot Owls. Mike's optimism and enthusiasm for everything life presented, was truly an inspiration for everyone in his wide circle of loved ones, friends, and colleagues. Mike's commitment to making this world a better place was a constant in his life, and enriched our lives immeasurably. A borrowed line from one of Mike's favorite songs-- "Arlington" by Nicki Metha--best describes Mike's legacy, "Is your spirit everywhere, Is your voice every tree, Your soul of the air." We are so thankful for the time we shared with Mike! Our blessings to Janice and Mike's family.

So sad to know about Mike's passing. It's a great loss for his family and many friends. He left us too early. We cherish the fondest memories of our dear friends Marie and Mike. We'll miss his smile, his music, his wit and love of the world. We enjoyed having Kalamazoo Russian festivals together and many hearty meetings in Heartland. We remember the Stoline Christmas parties to which my wife and I were invited. We remember the many Russian gifts decorating their house and a huge Russian painting Mike bought for Marie. Marie and Mike were among our best American friends in Kalamazoo. Rest in peace, dear friend

What great memories came to life as I read Mike's obituary. We were neighbors on Glenwood and the friendship continued long after both of our families moved away from the neighborhood. Our community and our world has truly benefitted from the lives of Mike and Marie.

Mike was a gentle and smart guy, solid and smiling through life's challenges. I knew him through Marie, and then, when she left us, by the Grace of God, Janice became his partner. I knew Mike would be well loved, as Janice is a super woman to many of us in the Peace movement. I also know one of his PhD students, Sherry Dixon, she thought highly of Dr. Stoline. May his memory be a blessing.

I'm so saddened by Mike's passing, and send my heartfelt thoughts to all of his family and friends. I met Mike in the Mathematics Department at Western Michigan University in the 1970's, and found him to be an open, friendly person with great enthusiasm for his work, his colleagues and the world we lived in, no matter its problems and challenges. He gave me unbridled support with questions facing me as coordinator of a special mathematics program for poverty area elementary school students called Project S.E.E.D. This was just a small example of the reach of the greater man.

Thoughts and prayers to your family. Mike was one of the older cousins in the family. Will remember Mike and Marie as a very loving and thoughtful couple. They were always interested in what you were doing when we would see them over the years. They were gracious hosts when Mom and Dad would come for a visit with Aunt Eva and Uncle Paul.
