Nancy C. Crawford, of Kalamazoo, passed away peacefully at Friendship Village at the age of 93. Nancy had a curious mind, adventurous spirit and the gift of independent thought. She was an avid reader who inspired a love of reading and lifelong learning in her children and grandchildren. Nancy was passionate about her chosen home of Kalamazoo, where she lived since 1964. She was a patron of the arts, especially the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, and loved collecting the work of local artists. After being a stay-at-home mom, Nancy earned a Master’s Degree from WMU in 1974, and secured her first position at The Upjohn Company, where she spent her entire career. Upon retiring she was thrilled to work part time at Hueschen and Sage, serve as a Hospice volunteer and librarian in the Friendship Village Library, and be an active member of People’s Church. Nancy was a world traveler, lover of the National Parks and took each of her grandchildren on a Sierra Club adventure to share her love of nature. Her hobbies included walking, writing, photography and especially reading books, newspapers and poetry. She enjoyed the competition of the NCAA Basketball Tournaments. Nancy was a vibrant soul with a kind and sensitive heart, who advocated for women’s rights and equality for all. Her love for others created fond memories for everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. Nancy is survived by her daughters: Connie McWethy, Sandra (Bill) Kuilema, Julee, (Dan) Hunt, and Ann (Bob) Presley; grandchildren: Andrew (Kelly) McWethy, Matt (Angie) McWethy, Caitlin (Tobias) Bailey, Lindsay (Erin) Flynn, Joe Kuilema (Chelsea) and Austin (Christina) Hunt and eleven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings Alice Stoddard, Carole Waynick, Emory King and Suzie Wagner.
