October 14, 1940 - May 31, 2022

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family asks that you share a memory, plant a pine tree (his favorite) and if compelled, donate in his memory to one of his favorite charities: Kalamazoo County Animal Services and Enforcement or Christian Neighbors in Plainwell Michigan.

Neal Thomas Hemenway was born October 14, 1940, and passed away in his home, on May 31, 2022.

Growing up on the Saginaw River in Bay City, Michigan, made Neal particularly fond of the water and he was an avid skier and boatsman. As a young man, he was a member of the Outriders Motorcycle Club in Kalamazoo for a time, before his children were born.

Neal found faith in Jesus and became a strong believer. He also did plenty of preaching, whether you wanted to hear it or not. He took care of his wife Peggy, who had schizophrenia, until her passing in 2021.

His favorite pastime was being with his family outdoors and keeping his property beautiful. He felt as if he was a caretaker and God gave him a special sanctuary to keep. He was a storyteller, all of them true, and it was always a treat to spend time around a campfire listening.
Neal was a truckdriver in the Kalamazoo and surrounding areas for 30 years with ATL/ANR Trucking. He also served as a Kalamazoo County reserve police officer, volunteering as a Chaplain there.

Neal believed in second chances. He was a giver with a big heart and was generous with his time and resources to help those in need.

Neal was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mead and Norma Ruth (Gregg) Hemenway, his brother Mead, and his wife of 50 years, Peggy Irene (Rice) Hemenway. He is survived by his sister Lynda Merrill and his daughters Torrie L. Condet and Robin N. Hemenway.
