Custer National Cemetery with full military honors on Monday, November 29, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. Those wishing to attend please meet in the cortege assembly area at 12:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice, c/o the funeral home.

Age 97, passed away early Saturday morning, November 20, 2021. Norman was born in Kalamazoo, on April 22, 1924, the son of Adolph and Ethel (Leland) Bryer. Norman proudly served his country in the United States Army. While serving in Central Europe he helped liberate Daukaausen. After attending nursing school at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, he worked as Dr. Homer Stryker’s surgical nurse. He also worked as a private duty nurse for many folks in the Gull Lake area. Norm was the “guinea pig” for testing the very first Stryker Medical bed frame. Norm was a fun-loving uncle, known as “Peekeeboo” or “Uncle Peekee.” He loved visiting Chicago where he enjoyed attending art shows and plays. He was also a fan of the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre and the Barn Theatre in Augusta. Norm is survived by his nieces and nephews, David (Kate) Bryer, Daniel (Nichole) Bryer, Shirley (Ken) Jako, James (Melanie) Bryer, Jerry (Mary) Bryer, Sharon (late Albert) Osterman, Frances (Ronald) Slaughter, Linda (Pete) Nader; many great-nieces and nephews, including special nieces, Brandy (Ronald) Fahling, Missti Slaughter and Amanda (Kevin) England, Marie (David) Parker; and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
