Patricia “Pat” Sarquiz was born June 8, 1935, in Kalamazoo, MI, to John and Maude Dyke, the youngest of four children. She attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1953.

After graduation, Pat enlisted in the U.S. Army as a member of the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) and was assigned to the medical field. Her first assignment was at Brooke Army Hospital in Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX, where she met her future husband, Alfred (“Al”) Sarquiz. She was later transferred to Letterman Army Hospital at the Presidio in San Francisco, CA, where Al traveled to join her. They were married there on July 9, 1955, and later reaffirmed their vows in 1983 at St. Monica Church in Kalamazoo.

Pat and Al built a full and loving family together, raising five children. They were blessed with eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.

Pat dedicated over 20 years as supervisor of the lunch program at Parkwood-Upjohn Elementary School, where she delighted in working with children — many of whom remembered her fondly well into adulthood. After leaving the school, she worked another 20 years at Wings Stadium, where she enjoyed greeting and interacting with guests as they arrived.

Pat’s greatest love was for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and for her family. She was a devoted and beloved member of Oakland Drive Christian Church, where members affectionately called her “Patty.”

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; her parents; sisters Dorothy Paradine and Jacqueline Quan; brother Lawrence Dyke; and grandson Jason M. March. Pat is survived by her children Michael A. (Nanette) Sarquiz of Opelika, AL; Nancy G. (Stephen) March of Kalamazoo, MI; Joanne L. Morford (preceded in death by husband Rod) of Fort Wayne, IN; Andrew P. (Anne) Sarquiz of Portage, MI; and Gary S. (Cindy) Sarquiz of Plainwell, MI. Her grandchildren are James (Amber) Sarquiz, Kyle (Jenny) March, Anthony and Elizabeth Morford, Kelly (Jaime) Hallman, Chad (Taylor) Sarquiz, and Grey Sarquiz. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Breanna, Judah, Dawson, Remi, Olivia, and Theo, as well as many nieces and nephews.
