Age 95, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2017. Polly was born in Shelbyville, MI, on January 1, 1922, one of fourteen children to Phillip and Pauline (Vlastic) Opatik. She remained a life time resident of the southwest Michigan area. She grew up on a farm and always loved being in the country. She had a great personality. Her heart and home were always open and those who entered were considered family. She loved being around people and enjoyed playing Bingo, card or board games and going to the casino. Polly also enjoyed cooking and she loved having family and friends over to enjoy a meal or cook out. Above all Polly loved her family, especially her grandchildren whom she adored. Her welcoming smile and loving embrace will be missed by all who knew her. On July 3, 1959, she married her loving husband Vernon Ray who preceded her in passing. She was also preceded in passing by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra K. (Robert) Hite and all of her siblings. Polly leaves to cherish her memory three children, Donna Rourke, Duane Smith, Tommy (Mary) Smith; six grandchildren, Duane Hensley, Dawn Stevens, Tony (Judy) Fenner, Tina (Jim) Emmons, Tammy Peterson, Rick Hite; many great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins; a former daughter-in-law, Pamela (Bill) Holroyd. The family would also like to thank DaRhonda Hendrickson and the staff of the Hendrickson Home in Decatur for the wonderful and compassionate care they gave to Polly in her final days.
