Burdick St., Kalamazoo, MI 49001, on Friday, February 7, 2020, beginning at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 PM, one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Rose Arbor Hospice Residence, c/o the funeral home.

Age 72, went to be with the Lord on February 2, 2020, she was surrounded by her family. She was born in Panama City, Panama, the daughter of the late Moses and Maria (Uter) Cooth. Perla was loving, kind and faithful. She had a thirst for knowledge and passion for learning which moved her to become a teacher. She retired from the Ft. Benning School District after several years of dedication to her students. When not working Perla enjoyed singing, dancing, sewing, crochet and was a marvelous cook. She had a servant’s heart and made time to volunteer at the Portage Senior Center and was a member of the North Highland Assembly of God Church. Above all Perla loved her family. She was a caring mother, involved grandmother, great-grandmother and loyal sister. She leaves behind the memory of a life well lived and will be missed by all who loved her. She is survived by three sons, Marcus Sims, Carlos Sims and Kevin (Jamel) Cooth; grandchildren, Sasha Bottine, Jaden Sims, Kiera Sims, Audrianna Thornton, Leila Fabeck-Sims, Adam Griffin, Faith Cooth, Kameron Cooth; great-grandchild, Reginald David Bell III; two sisters, Fatima and Marta; best friend, Catherine Childree; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
