Age 76, passed away at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence on December 7, 2016. Petra was born in Kalamazoo on March 3, 1940 the daughter of the late William “Bill”, Sr. and Ethel (Remington) Thomson. Petra was a devoted Christian and a true inspiration to everyone she met. She loved life to the fullest and lived every minute as if it were her last. Petra worked as a beautician for nearly 50 years, working up to just months prior to her death. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her three children, James (Margaret) Nelson, Helen Nelson and Mike (Mia) Nelson; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; siblings, Shirley Cullum, Robert (Sue) Thomson, Janette Carper and Larry Carper and several nieces and nephews. Petra was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Summers in 1997; sons, Randy and Steven Nelson and brothers, Duane, William, Jr. and David Thomson. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her.
