In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place and a private family service will be held at a later date. Richard will be laid to rest with his wife at Portage Central Cemetery.

Age 83, passed away at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence on Sunday, March 25, 2018. Richard was born in Newburgh, New York on July 23, 1934, the son of the late Arthur and Gladys (Post) Smith. He retired from GM after many years of employment. Richard was a devoted husband and married the former, Virginia M. Troxell on January 25, 1985. He is preceded in death by Virginia and his step-daughter, Debra Kurtz-Gettings. Richard is survived by his step-daughter, Vicki (Roger) Schuring; step-son, David Smith; grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Ring, Brian Schuring, Jessica (Mathew) Mercado, Jordan (Whitney) Smith, Justin Smith, Marquesha (Kevin) Smith and Taylor Gettings; as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
