Age 72, passed away at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence on March 13, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Kalamazoo on October 1, 1950, the son of the late John and Abigail (Engbers) Onderlinde. Robert was kind, generous and gracious. He had a passion for learning which led to a career in education. Throughout his life he taught at Rehoboth Christian School in New Mexico, Manhattan Christian School in Montana and later at Kalamazoo Christian School. His classroom was always open to a student in need, and he loved nothing more than sharing the wonders of science and reading with those around him. Robert also enjoyed coaching girls’ basketball for several years. After leaving teaching he worked for the West Michigan Cancer Center for many years. When not working he loved to spend time at home working in his garden or on a landscape project. He had a strong faith in the Lord and was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church. Above all Robert loved his family. He was especially proud of his children and grandchildren and leaves behind the legacy of a life well lived. On December 28, 1974, he married the love of his life Kathy (Schenkel) Onderlinde. They enjoyed forty-eight years together. He is survived by his wife Kathy; four children, James (Wendy) Onderlinde, Larissa (Ryan) Shance, Kristen (Robert) Graving, Brooke (Justin) Danforth; eleven grandchildren, Benjamin, John, Luke, Kelsie, Kylynn, Adam, Daisy, Lindy, Adeline, Abigail, Zackary; two siblings, Tom (Nancy) Onderlinde and Mary (Jack) VanderMeer; nieces, nephews and friends. He was also preceded in passing by an infant twin brother, Ron.
