Robert William Campsmith, age 81, passed away on March 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Chicago, IL, on September 13, 1944, the son of the late Robert J. and Elizabeth (Farmer) Campsmith. Robert was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather who leaves behind wonderful memories of a life well lived. In 1972 he married Carol (Crookes) Campsmith. They made their home in Portage, MI, and Robert worked hard in the information technology industry. He had a passion for photography and worked as a freelance photojournalist for the Kalamazoo Gazette for many years. He also enjoyed shooting sports, boating on Lake Michigan and spending time in South Haven. He made room in his heart for animals and loved his loyal dogs, “Charger” and “Becky Sue”. Above all Robert enjoyed spending time with his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren. Robert’s smile, laughter and love will be missed with fondness. He is survived by his loving wife Carol; son, Stanwood (Heather) Campsmith; daughters, Cheryl Shivak and Christine (Brett Fields) Campsmith; grandchildren, Samantha (Nick Byrne) Shivak, Andrew Shivak, Aiden Fields, Jordan Campsmith; great-grandchildren, Thea and Sloan Byrne; extended family and friends. He was also preceded in passing by a granddaughter, Shawna Shivak.
