In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place and interment will occur with family at Maple Grove Cemetery in Comstock, Michigan. A Celebration of Life will take place on June 26th, from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the Eagles Club (#526) of Kalamazoo. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or Basenji Rescue and Transport.

Age 82, passed away at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence in Battle Creek, Michigan on June 10, 2021. Robert “Bob” was born in Albion, Michigan on August 5, 1938, the son of the late Albert and Lillian (Cassidy) Girard. He served his country in the National Guard. Bob was a very talented diesel mechanic for Woolf Excavating for over 40 years before his retirement. He was a perfectionist and took pride in his work. Bob enjoyed restoring antique cars and rebuilt many during his lifetime. Bob also enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, car racing and gambling. Bob loved animals and had many over the years including dogs, cats, horses, and ducks. He was actively involved with his family in 4-H, supporting his daughter’s (Cherie’) showing of her horses. On November 24, 1965, he was united in marriage to the former Lorraine C. Kracko, who preceded him in death on March 25, 2004. Bob was also preceded in death by his son, Robert W. Girard II and his brother, Roger Girard. He is survived by his daughters, Cherie’ (David) Reitzel and Tamme (Paul) Bearman; long-time companion, Carole Shannon; grandchildren, Daniel Albert (Elizabeth) Bearman and Kristina Louise (Tyler) Swanson and two great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his brother, Terry (Barbara) Girard and sister, Pamela (William) Steele.
