Ruth Commissaris (Johnson), 87 passed away May 15, 2017 at Kairos Dwelling in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born in LaPorte, IN, on October 9, 1929, the oldest of five children to the late Elmer and Iva Johnson. She was the first in her family to be married and have children. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert L. Commissaris in 1963. Widowed at a young age, she persevered through the challenges of raising three boys. Her family was her true passion; she was a devoted mom who faced many adversities with faith and strength. Ruth was a kind and caring person who was loved by all and will be fondly remembered for her warm smile. For those who knew her, it was a privilege and an honor to have shared in her life. Ruth is survived by her sons and their wives, Russell (Linda) Commissaris, Randall (Lydia) Commissaris and Roger (Cindy) Commissaris; eight grandchildren, Adam (Beth) Commissaris, Jeffrey Commissaris, Rebecca (Jeffrey) Squires, John (Amy) Commissaris, Carolyn Commissaris, Corey Commissaris, Kim Commissaris and Phillip Commissaris; two great-grandchildren, Zachariah and Zoe Commissaris; brothers, Elmer and William (Nancy) Johnson; two sisters, Beverly Parker and Vida Groth.
